About Lufia & the Fortress of Doom Restored

Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)

Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.

Lufia & the Fortress of Doom Restored v2.4.1 (Sep 21 2018) ==================================================================================================== Disclaimer ========== - No ownership is claimed by vivify93 over Lufia & the Fortress of Doom or the franchise from which it originates. - Apply this patch only to a headered "Lufia & the Fortress of Doom (U) [!].smc". - Send bug reports to vivify93 via PM on ROMhacking.net, or by posting in this project's topic in RHDN's Personal Projects board. - If a modder wishes to use this in their project, they are asked to please credit vivify93. - Players are encouraged to keep a backup of their original ROM or project in case an error occurs. The first Lufia title makes many puzzling or unclear choices for terms, such as "Dead" being the name of the revival spell. After Artemis finished Frue Lufia's first major script revision, I took it upon myself to fix up Lufia & the Fortress of Doom. D had already attempted a "decensorship" mod, which restored censored NPC sprites and alcohol references, but he also altered several character names to reflect their Japanese equivalents. Thus, Lufia & the Fortress of Doom Restored is based off of Lufia: Decensored, reverting names and terms that didn't conform to English Lufia canon. I take no credit for the doubtlessly difficult sprite restoration and dialogue alteration. There are 2 patches contained in this archive. Choose 1 of the following. - LtFoD_Restored_v2-4-1 (Default and recommended patch): Features a new 8x8 menu font--the one used in Lufia II, but with some small revisions. Also edits the 8x16 dialogue font a little. - LtFoD_Restored_VANILLA-FONT_v2-4-1: Features a slightly modified version of the original 8x8 menu font, and reverts changes made to the 8x16 dialogue font. If you're unsure of which patch to choose, check the Screenshots folder. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Overview ======== - Based off of D AKA CinnamonPirate's Lufia Decensored patch to restore alcoholic references, the priests, the bunny girls, and various equipment names. Also tidies up an infamous line spoken by a villain. Some names were reverted from Decensored to conform to Natsume's 3 Lufia localizations. - Uses Lufia & the Fortress of Doom Multi-Editor to speed up character movement on the world map and in dungeons, as well as vehicle movement speed. (Editor by JCE3000GT; Sweet Water and Foul Water expiration notice fixes credit to rainponcho) - Restores item descriptions from the Japanese release, expanding the ROM to 1.50 MB! (Credit to rainponcho for creating the text insertion tool and expanding the ROM) - Various menu texts are made consistent with the rest of the Lufia trilogy, as per Frue Lufia's standard. - Some dialogue was cleaned up to fix later Lufia games' references to Lufia & the Fortress of Doom. - The beeping noise during spoken dialogue now also plays on the "Fast" message speed, like in the Japanese original. (Credit to rainponcho) - Crosses are restored to church interiors. (Credit to rainponcho) - The final boss' battle script has been restored to its original! (Credit to rainponcho) - Lufia and Selan can now equip the Zircon Rod, Zircon Robe, Zircon Wrist, and Zircon Beret. - Selan begins the prologue equipped with the Zircon Rod and Zircon Robe, instead of the Silver Rod and Silver Robe. - Artea starts the prologue equipped with the Mach Heels instead of the Cat Heels. - Optionally, the 8x8 menu font was replaced with a slightly modified version of Lufia II's, and the 8x16 font was cleaned up a little. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Changelog ========= v2.4.1 - Small technical problem fixed. The header of the base ROM and my output ROM didn't match, which would result in start-up issues if the player tried to remove the header from the IPS with IPSbehead, and apply it to an unheadered ROM. Both base and output ROM headers now match. v2.4 - The Charred Newt description erroneously stated that it restored MP, when it doesn't. Fixed. - Updated the forward-slash in the 8x16 dialogue fonts in both patches. - Changed the names of the elemental rings so they match with Frue Lufia. (Flash Ring > Bolt Ring Flame Ring > Spark Ring > Fire Ring Water Ring > Droplet Ring > Water Ring Blast Ring > Bang Ring > Bomb Ring Frost Ring > Gale Ring > Ice Ring) - Repaired the checksum of the patched ROM. v2.3a Readme / v2.3 Patch - No changes to the actual mod; only documentation was updated. v2.3 - Was able to change the names of the HP+ and Strength+ potions to be more sensible in the dialogue, so I changed it in the menu too. (Great Potion > Power Source Power Potion > Life Source) - The 5 Potions Egg Dragon wish now tells you it will grant, among other things, a "Spell Source" rather than a "Magic Potion". - The ROM no longer becomes unheadered after patching. - There are now two patches: one for the original menu font, and one for the new menu font. v2.2 - Minor typo fixes and one enemy name change. (Mud Man > Noveaux > Nouveaux Plum Cider > Liquor > Liqueur Eye Curse > Wormeye > Doom Eye) v2.1 - Corrected some self-induced typos in the item descriptions. - Changed the name of the mode where you get quadruple experience and gold, as well as the name of the selection for starting a new game. (Initial > Start Try Again > Retry) v2.0 - Restored the crosses to Ruan's church. (Credit to rainponcho) - Your party now no longer reverts to the old, slow walking speed when stepping off a vehicle. (Credit to rainponcho) - Sweet Water and Foul Water can no longer expire in towns, but fast walking speed is still maintained! (Credit to rainponcho) - Restored the item descriptions from Estpolis Denki! Press the X Button while the cursor is pointing to an item to receive the item's description. As I don't know Japanese, I pulled many descriptions from Frue Lufia and Crysta_Blade's item translations from the Japanese version of Lufia: The Legend Returns. I also had to make up descriptions for a good chunk of them. (Credit to rainponcho for creating the text insertion tool) - As a result of the previous two above, the ROM has been expanded from 1 MB to 1.50 MB. (Credit to rainponcho) - Thanks to rainponcho's efforts in completing this mod, I feel it's gone beyond the scope of a "text cleanup" and thus has been renamed Lufia & the Fortress of Doom: Restored. v1.0 - The crosses that were in Estpolis Denki's churches have been restored! (Credit to rainponcho) - The text bleep noise now stays when you set the text speed to "Fast" in the config menu. (Credit to rainponcho) - Sound now defaults to Stereo instead of Mono when you open the game and start a new game file. (Credit to rainponcho) - The final boss' battle script is back to the script it had in Estpolis Denki! These are its new attacks: Melanchoy (Sorrowful), Chaos, Destroy, Amnesia, Wail, Elegion (Skywrath), Glacier, Vulcan, Flood, and Dread. Note that Melanchoy appearing to do nothing is intended. (Credit to rainponcho) v0.4 - The Sweet Water and Foul Water expiration notices are back! Unfortunately, they can now wear off while you're walking about town, but it's a trade-off I'm willing to accept. (Credit to rainponcho) v0.3 - Removed "pcs" (As in "gold pcs") in the after battle text. - Removed "nomenclature_changes.TXT". I felt it was unnecessary to the scope of the project. - Edited the readme to cut out some of the excess fluff. - Reverted a spell name and an enemy attack name. (Succumb > Destroy > Succumb Destroy > Ravage > Destroy) - Changed some spell names. (Valor > Raise > Cheer Stone > Soften > Unstone Elf > Aterut > Ateret) - JCE3000GT upgraded the walk faster patch. Here's what the changes entail: 1. It now works in the Lost Forest and the prologue and sunken versions of the Fortress of Doom! 2. The airship and ship sailing speeds also gain massive boosts. The Sweet Water and Foul Water bugs are, unfortunately, still there. Thank you, JCE3000GT! - Reverted an enemy name. (Steel Lord > Hellknight > Steel Lord) - Fixed some consistency for an in-game joke. - Lufia and Selan can now equip the Zircon Rod, Zircon Robe, Zircon Wrist, and Zircon Beret. To account for this, Selan now comes equipped with the Zircon Rod and Zircon Robe, instead of the Silver Rod and Silver Robe, in the prologue. Thanks again to JCE3000GT for this! - Also, Artea comes equipped with the Mach Heels instead of the Cat Heels, since his role is to be a speedster. One last thanks to JCE3000GT! Check out his sweet new program, Lufia & the Fortress of Doom Multi Editor. http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1052/ I used it to make these changes! - I fixed some minor self-induced typos. (Hair Band > Hairband > Hair Band Fry Pan > Frypan > Frying Pan) - Edited an attack name to avoid a typo. (Melanchoy > Sorrowful) v0.2 - Shortened a spell name. (Poison > Detoxify > Detox) - Edited some battle text again. - Changed the name of an enemy critical hit. - Changed the name of the Glass Robe again. (Glass Robe > Grass Robe > Whip > Battle Wire) - Thanks to JCE3000GT, we now have the "walk faster" Pro-action Replay code permanently in the ROM! That means if you have a copier or a non-computer emulator, you can walk as fast as PC users, and in turn PC users don't need the code on every time they play. The side effects of the code still happen, however. Those are: 1. It doesn't work in the Fortress of Doom (Prologue, sunken) or Lost Forest. 2. It stops working when you step off a vehicle. 3. The prompt about Sweet Water wearing off doesn't appear anymore. 4. Foul Water stays active until you hard reset or shut off the game. v0.1b - Half-reverted the names of the Sources that improve HP and Strength since I couldn't edit them in the dialogue. Just remember, your health gives you power, and your greatness comes from strength. (Power Potion > Life Source > Power Source Great Potion > Power Source > Great Source) v0.1a - Changed a bunch of inventory, spell, and enemy names. - Reverted the names of the cast from D's patch. - Fixed a few textual inconsistencies in the dialogue: I changed "Potion" to "Source" wherever I found it since D didn't do that, and also changed the mentioning of the "Voice of Gloom" in the Forfeit Island special shop to the "Voice of Death," and changed the mention of the gourds to drugs. - Fixed a small bug in an Arubus NPC's text. - Fixed an inconsistency and really odd formatting relating to Arubus' whiskey mini-quest. - Changed the fonts. The big one is still more or less the same. - Fixed a trilogy inconsistency. - Decapitalized some menu strings, changed some shop tags, and centered D's new "Bar" label. (Item's > Items Jeweller > Jeweler EXPER > EXP.) - Fixed the grammar of some battle text. - Edited some enemy attack names. (Stone arm > Stone Arm Fire air > Fire Air Iron air > Iron Air Oily air > Oily Air Jolt > Rush Destroy > Ravage) - Removed the exclamation mark from the notice that a teammate learned a spell at level up. - Corrected a mythological reference. (Shilf > Sylph) - Changed the name of the spell Jerin learns in the Red Tower back to its Japanese name. I thought it would be kind of fun to have it as it was originally. (Elf > Aterut) - Here are all the changes made to item names as of v0.3, retroactively added to v0.1's update. This includes changes made by D. (Swing Wing > Warp Power Gourd > Power Drug Magic Gourd > Magic Drug Power Potion > Power Source Spell Potion > Magic Source Speed Potion > Speed Source Mind Potion > Mind Source Great Potion > Great Source Gloom Arrow > Death Arrow Pear Cider > Rum Sour Cider > Vodka Lime Cider > Gin Plum Cider > Liquor Apple Cider > Whiskey Stuffed Bear > Plush Bear Stuffed Dog > Plush Dog Stuffed Pig > Plush Monkey Goblet > Wine Glass Ear Tip > Earpick Dragon Tooth > Dragon Fang Grilled Newt > Charred Newt) - Here are all the changes made to equipment names as of v0.3, retroactively added to v0.1's update.
